Can you really minimize your pores ❓

Let’s be honest: most of us can agree that dealing with blackheads and open pores is pretty frustrating, right?

I’ve tried a lot of methods to figure out how to minimise pores but sadly skin isn’t that simple.

There are many myths when it comes to making your pores smaller and if you’ve done research before, you’re probably also aware that your pores don’t open and close.

So, today I decided to give you a little guide to how you can improve the appearance of your pores, instead.

Why can’t pores open and close?

Steam facials, cold water or the overall myth that you can shrink your pores are all not true.

The pores on your face are simply a path through the layers of skin, which allows the body to push out excess oil and dead skin cells.

The thing is they don't have muscles, so they can't actually open or close.

So, you can’t open your pores at all?

Although I already told you the bad news, they’re not entirely bad...

There are some good news, too.

You might not be able to close your pores but you can still make them appear less noticeable.

So if you're not willing to pay a lot of money for cosmetic procedures that aim in minimising your pores, then there is only one option...

The answer to making your pores appear smaller is to cleanse your skin regularly.

It sounds easy but there some things you should keep in mind...

Some tips to effectively cleaning your pores:
  • Cleanse your face twice a day
  • Use warm water
  • Don’t do it aggressively
  • Pat your skin dry with a soft towel

This is where the role of a good cleanser comes along.

Unclogging your pores can be an easy task if you’re using a gentle, but strong enough cleanser that will deeply cleanse the pores.

Using a gentle, pH-balanced cleanser made with hydrating ingredients like Aloe Vera or Green Tea that won’t damage or strip your skin is the best option for keeping your skin healthy.

Our Hydrating Cleanser with a silicon brush attached will help unclog pores so that your skin can breathe and become purified.

On the other side, if you don’t cleanse your skin, you’ll end up having dull skin and clogged pores that can result in bumpy looking skin.

Bad habits to avoid:

Don’t pick at your pores

I know that this is a hard one, but whatever you do just don’t pick at your face.

Popping pimples or trying to remove other debris by using your fingernails can cause trauma to your skin, make acne more noticeable and in general: do more harm than good.

Pore Strips are a no-go

These pieces of sticky tape are applied directly to the skin, then ripped cleanly away, pulling out the contents of your pores along with them – at least, that’s the promise.

While you may be able to see blackheads, these strips are only removing the top layer of the dirt in your pores.

Not very long after, you will be back to where you started.

They may also irritate or harm your skin.

Wear sunscreen

Sunscreen and large pores, how are these connected at all?

Well, unprotected sun exposure can break down elastin and collagen in the skin, leading to larger pores.

Many sunscreens protect your skin from UVB rays only (the ones responsible for causing skin cancer) but fail to give you protection from UVA rays.

Collagen and elastin are broken down by UVA rays, that’s why it’s important to pick a broad-spectrum sunscreen like Antarctic Sun Defence (which by the way also rejuvenates the skin from existing sun damage).
