Reduce environmental skin damage & look younger!✨

Our skin is exposed to stressors every day.

Especially now in the summer.

Environmental factors such as sun exposure and pollution can make it really hard for our skin to appear healthy...

So today I want to share some of the most common factors that can damage your skin and disrupt its healthy function

- and of course, I will also tell you what you can do about it.

Understanding UV rays

I’ve already mentioned the damage that UV rays can do to your skin but I will do it once again.

UVA rays are the ones responsible for signs of premature ageing, like wrinkles, sagging skin and sunspots.

These rays break down collagen and elastin, leading to all these signs of ageing.

UVB rays, on the other hand, inflict damage to the outermost layer of the skin, resulting in sunburn or sun poisoning;

they’re also the number-one cause of skin cancer.

Many sunscreens don’t offer protection against both types of rays,

that’s why it’s important to always check if your sunscreen is broad-spectrum, making regular application easier.

Pollution

Pollution also weakens your skin’s natural moisture barrier which can lead to many skin problems,

including premature ageing, sensitivity, skin dehydration and loss of collagen.

Even a daily walk on a busy street can cause oxidative stress and free radical damage to our skin.

Over time, the cumulative effects of this constant exposure to pollutants are incredibly damaging.

Blue Light

Blue light does come from the sun, indeed, but it also comes from digital devices, tablets, and even televisions.

It can damage the skin, and over time disrupt the formation of collagen and elastin.

This area isn't as well researched, but minimizing the exposure to blue light is the safest way to go when it comes to your skin's health.

So how can you protect your skin?

Your skin needs antioxidants

In the summer your skin definitely needs extra support and providing it with antioxidants can improve its health.

Free radicals are found in pollution, cigarette smoke and sun exposure...

They damage the skin and lead to brown spots, wrinkles and premature ageing.

Choosing skin care products with antioxidants provides additional protection against free radicals.

Antioxidants help to maintains the integrity of collagen and elastin in the skin, making the ageing process less dramatic and more graceful.

It’s inevitable, which is why daily and proper cleansing is crucial.

Don't forget the SPF

You've heard it a million times, but please don't forget to apply your sunscreen - no matter of the season or weather.

By applying sunscreen each day, you cut your risk of contracting skin cancers in half.

Studies have also shown that those below age 55 who apply sunscreen regularly have 24 percent less chance of developing signs of premature ageing than those who don't.
