7 Small Changes that Make a Big Difference After 50 💜

I know turning 50 can be a strange feeling: you notice more changes in your body, your reading glasses are becoming more and more necessary, and on top of that, your hair is getting greyer.

Not to mention waking up with aches (to be honest, this was lurking in my 20s too).

When I turned 50, I realized how fast the years have gone by and it got me thinking that there’s no time like the present,

so I decided to learn how to really enjoy my life and change my lifestyle for the better.

But the thing is: it’s hard to start when you don’t know where to begin…

So today I decided to give you my 7 suggestions that have changed the way I feel and look, and hopefully will help you too.

Just keep in mind that when you incorporate a change into your routine it may take some time before you notice an actual difference.

Also, don’t be too hard on yourself if you can’t stick with these or other changed, you’d like to make: Just take it one step at a time.

1. Cut down on salt

This is a small change with a big payoff.

One of the easiest things we can do to prevent heart diseases is cutting out the salt intakes.

What motivated me to cut down on salt was learning that salt intake of less than 5 grams per day helps to reduce blood pressure and risk of heart diseases.

I call that a win!


This is another small change that you can incorporate into your routine.

Practising meditation even for 10 minutes helped me to reduce stress, manage pain, induce relaxation and reprogram my subconscious patterns.

Through meditation I learned to become more aware of my thoughts, and this awareness led me to recognize habits that led to anger, stress, and unhappiness.

3. Practice gratitude

I told you about this one in my last email but it’s something that really made a difference for me.

Too often we get in the habit of dwelling on negative things or wish things were different.

Gratitude isn’t necessarily automatic for us...

I started with a gratitude journal, where I wrote five to ten things each day that I was grateful for.

Even the simple things matter!

4. Limit red meat

When we get older, we need to practice more and more moderation…

Unfortunately, we simply can’t get away with all the things we used to.

As we age, high cholesterol becomes even more crucial to our overall health and well-being.

Reducing the amount of red meat, or cutting it out altogether, can be one more way to reduce heart disease risk.

5. Learn something new

It’s important to keep learning throughout our entire lives.

Just like your muscles, your brain needs to be used to stay fit too.

There are lots of fun ways to keep your brain active.

And it’s not just about doing puzzles.

Believe me, taking a dance class was a great decision I made and it improved how I feel.

Even if you’re not feeling like starting a dance class, you can simply try to move more and spend more time in nature.

6. Practice letting go

I used to hold onto so many past experiences that sometimes ended up weighing me down.

Once I turned 50, I knew it was about time to lighten the load.

I know that’s easier said than done. It takes practice.

But try focusing on the current and forgive yourself for mistakes that happened in the past.

7. Use sunscreen

When I was younger, I used to not care that much whether I was wearing sunblock or not, after all when you’re young your first thought are not the consequences.

The thing with sunscreen that I learned is that it’s never too late to start and your skin will always be thankful.

Wearing sunscreen lowers your skin cancer risk and also helps

prevent discoloration and dark spots from sun damage, helping you maintain a smoother and more even skin tone.

I’m not going to lie: In the beginning, it’s not easy to make changes. But after a while, those changes made me feel like a better version of myself.
