What is the moisture barrier?
I know that if we get too scientific about this term it might sound confusing and frankly: you might lose interest in finding out more about it.
That's why I will try to keep it as simple as possible.
Think of the moisture barrier as the shield that keeps good things in and bad things far from your skin.
So what do we mean when we say "bad things"?
Environmental stressors, bacteria, pollutants and other irritants all fall in this category.
What about the good things?
The key words here are hydration and moisture.
Basically, if you want dewy, glowing skin that looks and feels hydrated
- you need to take care of your moisture barrier.
How to tell if your moisture barrier is not functioning properly?
If you feel like your skin is tight, itchy or overly sensitive, it's likely that your skin barrier is damaged.
What happens when it becomes damaged?
It's simply more vulnerable to infection from microorganisms, pollution and toxins.
Everyone's skin is different so you need to pay close attention to it when you feel like something could be off.
Anything from smoking to not drinking enough water can damage the moisture barrier.
It could also be due to using products that are not a good match for your skin...
What should you do in order to have a healthy moisture barrier?
Before I became more interested in skincare, I wasn't paying much attention to the labels of the products I was using on my skin,
and later on I found that some of them contained ingredients that were damaging my moisture barrier.
On the other hand, sun exposure and pollution attack the skin with free radicals and oxidative stress.
That's another reason to pay more attention to keeping your skin barrier in good health.
So how can you achieve this?
1. Use hydrating ingredients
The secret to preserving and strengthening the skin's moisture barrier is to use products that contain ingredients that hydrate & protect your skin's moisture barrier.
2. Keep it gentle
When you cleanse your skin, a general rule is to use cleansers that are not drying
and don't disrupt your barrier or microbiome (the good bacteria on your skin) - both responsible for your skin's health.
Aloe Vera and Niacinamide are soothing ingredients that can hydrate and protect the skin.
Both can be found in our 100% rose water based Hydrating Cleanser.
We aim to create products that are unique and feel remarkably well on your skin.

3. Choose a moisturiser that hydrates & supports skin barrier function
This step is crucial as moisturisers actually have a big role to solving issues connected to impaired skin barrier function.
Let's take our Prebiotic Moisturising cream as an example.
Moisturisers improve skin barrier repair, maintaining skin's appearance by improving skin's hydration.
The Prebiotic Moisturising cream helps your skin barrier fight the good fight with the help of Rosa Damascena oil, Rosehip oil and Hyaluronic acid.
The prebiotic complex it contains acts as a boost of support for your skin barrier & microbiome.
We created this cream with primary care for your skin moisture barrier
to help you fight the effects of impaired barrier function and make sure your skin stays healthy.
